PLASTICITY 2012, will take place at Rio Mar Beach Resort & Spa, San Juan, PR,
USA, January 3-8, 2012. This Symposium series is the prime forum for plasticity
research dissemination as usually 300-400 scientists from around the world
participate in this conference. The symposium will focus on multi-scale
computational plasticity, plasticity of emerging materials (nano-crystalline
solids, thin films, biomaterials, polymers etc.) and micro mechanics of plastic
deformation and texture evolution, including materials science aspects, metal
forming, and elastic-plastic damage mechanics. However, presentations in any
area of plasticity will be welcomed, especially experimental and materials
science studies related to plastic deformation. Thus topics of interest include
but not limited to, plastic and visco-plastic behaviors of single crystals and
polycrystalline metals, nano-crystalline metals, thin films, biomaterials,
ceramics, ice, rocks and soils, composite materials and polymers, as well as
plasticity aspects of damage, failure and fracture mechanics. Symposium
presentations must be original unpublished research related to experimental,
numerical or theoretical analyses of the inelastic behavior of solids subjected
to quasi-static, dynamic or cyclic thermo-mechanical loading.
A three-page summary/compact paper will be printed in a CD Proceedings and
available at the symposium for quick dissemination of your research. The
optional full-length papers are published in the International Journal of
Plasticity after the standard peer review process and acceptance, for archival
reference. The journal has the highest impact factor among all solid mechanics
journals in 2002- 2010. Please see the internet for the journal details at:
www.elsevier.com/locate/ijplas/
The full-length papers should be submitted for publication consideration anytime
from six months before to six months after the symposium. We expect this
symposium to be as outstanding, both technically and socially, as its
predecessors, including the one in Whistler (July 2000), Aruba (Jan. 2002),
Quebec City (July 2003), Kauai (January 2005), Halifax (July 2006) Alyeska
Resort south of Anchorage (June 2007), Sheraton Keauhou Bay Resort (January,
2008), St. Thomas Frenchman's Reef and Morning Star Marriott Beach Resort
(January 2009), St. Kitts Marriott Resort (January 2010) and Marriott Puerto
Vallarta Resort & Spa (January 2011).
THE LOCATION AND HOTEL
PLASTICITY 2012 will take place at Rio Mar Beach
Resort and Spa. It is nestled between the Atlantic Ocean and the El Yunque
Caribbean National Forest in a lush hideaway on the "Isle of Enchantment".
Created to pamper and impress, this Puerto Rico resort has breathtaking ocean
view and 500 acres of everything you may desire. It has a mile of secluded beach
and two oceanfront swimming pools. There are numerous direct flights to San Juan
from major US, Canadian and European cities. Participants from Asia may
connect via Los Angeles, San Francisco, New York, Chicago and Washington,
directly to Puerto San Juan. The temp. is expected to be 75-80 F.
The website for the resort is:
A block of rooms has been set aside at a very special rate (single or double $
110 for resort view, $135 for ocean view and $ 150 for ocean front rooms per
night, plus 11% tax and 5% resort fee; and additionally, a housekeeping gratuity
of $2.50 per room per day will apply, as well as a one-time porterage fee of
$7.00 per room); this rate includes breakfast on conference days. The regular
rate for this resort is more than triple of the symposium rate. More information
will be provided for reservation after we receive your acceptance.
PRESENTATIONS AND REGISTRATION FEE
The presentations will include key-note invited lectures and invited
presentations in each of four parallel sessions. The invited key-note lecture of
30-40 minutes duration is expected to give an overview of the subject with
almost 15-20 minutes being devoted to the results of other researchers. Invited
presentations will be allotted 20 minutes. All presentations, including invited
lectures, must contain a significant amount of unpublished results. A session of
two hours will normally include one lecture and four invited talks. Computer
projectors will be available for your presentation.
